Amazon Prime Day 2018 is fast approaching on July 16th. Prime members are gearing up for the 36 hours of exclusive deals and flash sales.
On the day of its official announcement, searches for “Prime Day” rose 332%, as consumers poured onto Amazon’s site looking for any hints or clues as to what might feature in this year’s sale.
In the past 30 days, the volume of “Prime Day” searches were also up 145% compared to last year. So if search is any indication of buying intent, 2018 looks set to beat all records from last year (Prime Day 2017 reaching $1 billion in sales globally).
Discounts on Amazon products started from July 3rd
Amazon has taken a leaf from its Cyber Week playbook; slashing prices on its own products by almost two weeks before Prime Day’s official start date. The largest deal is by far the $100 discount on the Echo Show, the Alexa-enabled speaker-with-screen, which is on offer for its lowest price ever at $129.99.
The bait has worked – Prime members have snapped up these products in the days leading up to Prime Day. Over 10,000 Echo Show purchases were made in the seven days to July 11th, which was 236% higher than the weekly average in June. Other Amazon favorites, like the Fire Stick and Kindle also saw over 10,000 purchases over this period.
Gamers are keeping close tabs in the lead up to Prime
Gamers are also closely watching Amazon’s movements. In the past seven days, the Nintendo Switch received over 241,000 page views, along with the CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme PC and Acer Predator Helios Gaming Laptops, at 154,000 and 144,000 views respectively.
Prime Day continues to attract more attention and online interest. Consumers are prepping for the big day – snapping up early bargains and looking out for their favorite products. The 36 hours of deals (6 more hours than last year), will no doubt surpass the $1 billion mark.
