“Google continues to dominate the search market in the UK powering three quarters of UK internet searches” said Heather Hopkins, Director of Research for Hitwise UK. While Google is the dominant player, the race for the second most popular search engine is closely contested and will be interesting to watch following the re-launch of Ask at the beginning of February and the launch of Microsoft’s Vista in 2007.

eBay Tops Search Terms

Hitwise Search Intelligence reveals that ‘ebay’ remains the most popular search term typed into search engines in the four weeks to 1st April, representing 0.7% of all search terms. There were more than three times as many searches for ‘ebay’ as the next highest volume term, ‘amazon’, which accounted for 0.2% of all search terms.

Among travel related search terms, easyJet was the most searched for airline in the four weeks ending 1st April. Ryanair was the next most searched for airline, followed by British Airways.
