Online Users Follow Up LPG Offer with Research on Automotive Websites
According to Hitwise, the world's leading online competitive intelligence service, Australian motorists were quick to investigate the Federal Government's subsidy offer on vehicle LPG conversions online. Searches on the term, 'lpg' overtook references to 'fuel' or 'petrol' for the first time for the week ending August 19, 2006.
There were 10,050 search term variations on the term, 'lpg' for the 12 weeks ending August 19, 2006. The most popular variations relating to the Government offer included, 'lpg conversion', 'lpg rebate' and 'lpg subsidy'. Commercial references included, 'lpg cars', 'lpg injection' and 'lpg installers'.
LPG Australia (www.lpgaustralia.com.au), which is a professional association for the LPG industry received the majority of this traffic with 26.2% share of searches on 'lpg'. Consumer-advocacy website, Choice (www.choice.com.au) also received substantial traffic with 11.2% indicating the demand for educational resources on alterative sources to petrol by motorists.
Hitwise Industry Clickstream traffic indicates that consumers more than doubled the amount of research on automotive websites after visiting LPG-oriented sites in the Primary Industry and Resources category during the week of the LPG offer.
The top 5 sites in the Hitwise Automotive - Manufacturers industry who received increased downstream traffic during this time period included Ford Australia (www.ford.com.au), Holden Australia (www.holden.com.au), Toyota Australia (www.toyota.com.au), Mitsubishi Motors Australia (mitsubishi-motors.com.au) and Honda Australia (www.honda.com.au).
Consumer searches for 'used cars' also reached the highest point in 3 months during the week ending August 19, 2006, suggesting that motorists are seeking to maximise the full cost-saving potential of an lpg used car.

Hard Yakka is running a "Give Dad A Break" promotion for Father's Day (www.yakka.com.au/fathersday). The competition began on Monday August 7, 2006 and will close on Monday September 4, 2006. After one week of the promotion, www.yakka.com.au had risen to be the 501st most popular website in Australia (the 256th most popular Australian site), a gain of 43,497 positions. Among Fashion websites it had risen to be the 2nd most popular in Australia, a gain of 179 positions.
Hard Yakka has been able to increase its marketshare by over 240 times since August 5 (based upon when the site peaked in the Fashion vertical at 21.36% marketshare on the August 8) by running a paid to surf campaign through EmailCash Australia (www.emailcash.com.au) as well as conjointly running an email promotion based upon EmailCash's email subscription list.
Hitwise Australia Clickstream data reveal that EmailCash Australia was the #1 referring site for Hard Yakka for the week ending August 12 with over 34% of upstream market share; followed by Hotmail with 19% of upstream traffic.
The second step of the competition, for those who are not instant winners, is to shop for Hard Yakka workwear and footwear at Kmart and then, with a valid receipt number, enter the draw to win. The page includes a link to find your nearest Kmart store (one of Yakka's many stockists) and this has resulted in well over 4% of users visiting www.kmart.com.au after www.yakka.com in the hopes that they will be able to "Give Dad a Break".
