Football carnival scores goal for sponsor
The January 13 announcement of Brazil's first ever appearance in the Carlsberg Cup ensured carnival sponsor Carlsberg HK saw a prolific increase in website activity over the following weeks. In a period of just two days the website leapt some 4053 places, from 4,929th to 876th overall.
Buoyed by a sequence of events, Hitwise reports a sustained increase in website traffic the week ending January 29. The news that international superstars Ronaldo and Ronaldinho would be included in the squad and the release of details for online ticket sales saw Carlsberg HK secure its position as the 5th most heavily trafficked 'Food & Beverage - Brands & Manufacturers' website, increasing its market share from 2.5% to 7%.
On February 6, 6.33% of users bookmarked the website in the lead up to the game. Taking place on February 9, Brazil was triumphant on the day with a 7-1 win. Local websites to benefit from the event included the Hong Kong Football Association, receiving a significant traffic boost that increased its market share by 200% on game day, culminating in a ranking of 7th in the 'Sports - Soccer' category.

Hitwise at Work
How a popular online food delivery service used Hitwise data to develop content and product offerings on their website.
An online food delivery service, which provides customers with a variety of cuisine choices, found that although the site was attracting many visitors, sales were not increasing accordingly.
Using Hitwise 'Clickstream' data, the food delivery service found that it was losing 15% of its visits to a variety of competitive websites - specifically 10% to Pizza Hut.
Hitwise 'Search Terms' data revealed that 28% of the top search terms in the online food industry were "pizza" related.
With these competitive and customer insights, the online food delivery service made several adjustments to its website to satisfy user demand, prevent churn and increase sales. Specifically, the site featured a pizza promotion on the home page, as well as an offer to accept any Pizza Hut coupon or promotion.
With Hitwise competitive insights the online food delivery service was able to diminish churn to Pizza Hut by 50%, and increase sales.
