Dictionary Yahoo! and Wikipedia surge in traffic
Dictionary Yahoo! (hk.dictionary.yahoo.com), which provides an online English-Chinese, Chinese-English dictionary, is the most popular Education - Reference website visited by Hong Kong Internet users, and has received a surge in traffic of 30.7% between weeks ending August 13 and September 17, 2005. Dictionary Yahoo! had nearly a quarter of the market share of the category, with 23.28% at the end of this time period.
Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.com), the collaborative project to produce a complete and free encyclopaedia, also had a significant rise in traffic, growing at a faster rate of 31% between August 13 and September 17, 2005. Wikipedia was ranked at position #5 in Education - Reference for the week ending September 17, 2005. Chinese Wikipedia (zh.wikipedia.org) ranked at 18th position.
The Top 20 Education - Reference websites also included AltaVista Babel Fish (world.altavista.com), Dictionary.com, Merriam-Webster Online (www.m-w.com) and Cambridge Dictionaries Online (dictionary.cambridge.org). However, Hong Kong Internet users preferred local reference websites, with 72.6% of traffic directed to domestic websites.
Visits to Education - Reference websites are higher by 21% compared to the same time last year. Computers & Internet - Portal Frontpages were a key driver of industry upstream traffic to Education - Reference, making up 14.6% of referrals for week ending September 17, 2005.

On Monday September 12, Hong Kong residents and tourists from the mainland celebrated the opening of the third Disneyland theme park outside of the United States. Interest was also reflected online as the website leapt 81 places overall to just outside the Top 100, with a ranking of 119th. Importantly, the website is currently the 2nd most popular 'Travel' website as viewed by Hong Kong residents, beaten only by Centamap (www.centamap.com) by the slimmest difference of 2.59%. Yahoo! demonstrated its popularity with its 4 sites Yahoo! Hong Kong (hk.yahoo.com), Yahoo! Hong Kong Search (search.hk.yahoo.com), Yahoo! Hong Kong Directory (hk.dir.yahoo.com) and Yahoo! Hong Kong News (hk.news.yahoo.com) providing the website with more than 20% of its upstream traffic.
