Chinese New Year Celebrations in
Hong Kong
The official site of the Hong Kong Tourism Board is found
at www.hkta.org. Kicking
off 2006 Discover Hong Kong Year was the Cathay Pacific International
Chinese New Year Night Parade held on January 29. It was a stunning
procession of magnificently decorated and brightly lit floats from Hong
Kong and around the world, supported by colourfully costumed multicultural
performers and marching bands as well as luminous lion and dragon dancers.
The parade route was packed with 100,000 spectators and carried live on TV
and over the Internet.
Adding to this glittering gala was a bevy
of fantastic celebrations including a stunning harbour fireworks display
watched by hundreds of thousands of enthralled spectators packed along the
waterfront. The backdrop of city lights, harbour and surrounding mountains
made this event spectacular.
Sports fans had a lot to cheer about
with the annual Chinese New Year soccer tournament featuring three
international sides (Croatia, Denmark and South Korea) along with a local
side of all-stars meeting in a two-day tournament.
Always popular
at Chinese New Year are the colourful traditional flower markets packed
with people buying lucky or auspicious flowers and plants for their homes
and offices. Also worth a visit are some of the temples around town where
people make pilgrimages at Chinese New Year to give thanks for the past 12
months and pray for good fortune in the coming year.

Hitwise for Benchmarking
While most organisations have a comprehensive
understanding of how their customers interact with their own website, few
have an overview of how their online business compares to their industry.
Although 'website centric' information is crucial for online
marketers, equally important is being able to benchmark your own website
against other players in your industry. By doing so, your online business
can be put into context and marketers have the opportunity to learn from
industry best practices.
Because we measure the online behaviour of
millions of Internet users every day, only Hitwise can provide marketers
with a comprehensive overview of the online competitive environment,
enabling marketers to benchmark their performance against
competitors.
For example if an online bookstore wanted to benchmark
their online performance against their three key competitors, here are
some of the insights they could uncover with Hitwise.
- How does my website rank against competitors in the Shopping-Books
Industry, and against all websites?
- How much time do people spend on my website versus competitive
websites?
- Which search engines drive traffic to my website versus competitive
websites?
