| Social Networking Boosting Traffic to Online Photography Industry |
According to Hitwise, online photography websites are increasingly popular among Hong Kong Internet users, with market share of visits to the Entertainment - Photography industry increasing by over 13% since January 2007. The recent increase in market share of visits to the online photography websites may be attributed to the growing popularity of social networking websites that allow users to upload their photos onto their profile page. According to Hitwise Hong Kong, at the start of the year (week ending 06/01/07), the Photography industry received 29.5% of its traffic from the Net Communities and Chat industry. More recently however, this figure has increased by 31%, with over 38% of market share of visits to Photography websites originating from websites within the Net Communities and Chat industry.
The Hong Kong online Photography industry has been highly competitive throughout recent months. During September 2007, the #1 website in this industry changed multiple times, with five different websites (www.slide.com, www.dcfever.com, www.flickr.com, photos.xanga.com and www.photobucket.com) holding the top position at some point during the month (based on daily data). However, during the 4 week period ending 27/10/07, Slide.com surged ahead of its competitors and maintained a considerable lead. Slide.com experienced an increase in market share of visits by over 47% (during weeks ending 29/09/07 - 27/10/07), to hold 13.96% of the market share of visits among Photography websites during the week ending 27/10/07, with www.flickr.com (7.86%), www.dcfever.com (7.72%) and www.photobucket.com (6.98%) trailing behind. Slide.com received the majority of its traffic from social networking websites, receiving over 57% of its traffic from Facebook (www.facebook.com), as of the week ending 27/10/07.

According to Hitwise Hong Kong, the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) increased its rank from 40th in August 2007 to 22nd in September 2007 among the Travel - Destinations and Accommodation websites. The MGTO website features the local tourist spots, tourism events and a virtual Macau tour. In September, Apple Daily Online was the top website to refer traffic to MGTO accounting for 10.88% market share of traffic. This website is the web version of Hong Kong's leading newspaper Apple Daily featuring local and global breaking news, community news, entertainment, finance and sports.
