The most popular Social Networking & Forums websites visited by Hong Kong Internet users are YouTube and Facebook. According to Hitwise Hong Kong, YouTube is the current market leader in the Social Networking & Forums online industry with 12.79% share of visits for the week ending 16/02/2008. Facebook closely followed with 10.33% share of visits.
YouTube emerged as the number one Social Networking & Forums website for the first time ahead of Xanga for the week ending 03/11/2007 and has since gone head-to-head, interchanging the number one position with Facebook.
In 2007 Facebook experienced a market share growth of over 2100% and achieved the number one rank for the months of November and December 2007, surpassing Xanga which held the number one monthly rank from February 2006 to October 2007.
Participation of Hong Kong Internet users on Social Networking & Forums websites is significant and reflected in the steady growth of this online industry throughout 2007, which reached a market share high of 19.23% in the week ending 29th December 2007.
The Social Networking & Forums online industry is well ahead of both Search Engines and Email Services, accounting for 17.29% share of visits compared to 6.71% and 7.06% respectively for the week ending 16/02/2008.
