| Business & Finance - Employment & Training Insights and Update |
Hitwise Hong Kong has recently revealed trends emerging in the online Business & Finance - Employment & Training industry. Analysis of visits to the Employment & Training industry (based on monthly data) between May 2005 and May 2008 depicts strong seasonal trends, with visits peaking during May and June, and falling during December and January. Reasons for the spikes in traffic during May and June remains uncertain; however possible explanations include an increase in University students hunting for jobs at the end of the academic year, and employees looking for a change early in the new financial year.
During May 2008, the Employment & Training industry accounted for 10.47% of all visits to the Business & Finance parent category, outranking other popular Business & Finance industries including Property, Business Directories and Telecommunications. While May and June are consistently the most popular months for the Employment & Training industry, an overall downward trend in visits is emerging. During May 2006 the Employment & Training industry accounted for 14.00% of visits to the Business & Finance industry; by May 2007 and 2008 however this dropped to 11.42% and 10.47% respectively.
Social Networking & Forums, Email Services and Search Engines are among the key industries driving traffic to Employment & Training websites. For the first time in 2008, during week ending 07/06/2008, the Social Networking & Forums industry referred a greater percentage of traffic to Employment & Training websites (10.65%) compared to Email Services (10.37%) and Search Engines (7.20%). Further analysis of Clickstream data suggests that job seekers are visiting a number of different Employment & Training websites in their quest to find a new job, with Employment & Training accounting for 37.99% of downstream traffic during May 2008. During the same period, some of the most popular Employment & Training websites included Interactive Employment Service of Labour Department (www.jobs.gov.hk), JobsDB Hong Kong (www.jobsdb.com/hk), JobsDB.com (www.jobsdb.com) and Career Times (www.careertimes.com.hk).
