Singapore celebrates National Day online
Following unprecedented demand for tickets to Singapore's National Day Parade earlier this year, Singapore Internet users have flocked to the parade's official website to catch a glimpse of the action online.
With tickets to the highly-anticipated event selling out in a matter of minutes, and scores of unscrupulous sellers attempting to tout their tickets on auction sites such as eBay, many Singaporeans decided their best option was to view the parade via the live webcast on the official National Day Parade website (www.ndp.org.sg).
Traffic to the National Day Parade website soared on the day of the event, Wednesday August 9. The site jumped to #43 out of all sites monitored by Hitwise Singapore, an increase of over 300% since the beginning of the month, when the site ranked at #188 (based on daily data for August 1).
The most popular downstream site from www.ndp.org.sg was the National Day Parade Moblogs subsite (moblog.ndp.org.sg) which allows users to upload their own amateur videos of the event as well as send SMS and MMS National Day greetings. This site claimed more than 38% of downstream visits from the National Day Parade website.
