Job Seekers Go Online in January as New Year Job Hunt Begins
The online Employment sector has been inundated with interest in the New Year, according to the latest Hitwise statistics on traffic to online job search websites.

It seems that for many Singaporeans, finding a new job has been an important New Year's resolution, with traffic to the Hitwise Business & Finance - Employment & Training category experiencing a surge in the first week of January.

From the week ending January 6 to the week ending January 13 2007, traffic to Employment sites jumped from 1.09% to 1.32% of all visits to websites by Internet users in Singapore. This represents an increase of 21%, and is the highest percentage of traffic received by the Employment sector since August 2006.

An analysis of terms entered into search engines before users visited sites in the Employment sector reveals that the website Jobstreet (www.jobstreet.com.sg) claims the highest number of searches, with 3.63% of visitors to Employment sites typing 'jobstreet' into a search engine for the week ending January 13. This term is closely followed by 'jobsdb', with 3.28% of searches looking for the popular jobsearch website JobsDB.com (www.jobsdb.com).

The following report lists the most popular terms typed into a search engine over the 24 weeks ending 20/01/2007 that resulted in traffic to websites classified by Hitwise within the 'Music' industry. For example, the most popular search term was 'baidu' representing 1.68% of all search terms that delivered users to websites classified by Hitwise in the 'Music' industry.

Online job search site Jobseek Singapore is emerging to become one of the most popular online employment sites in 2007, according to the latest data on the Business & Finance - Employment & Training category on Hitwise.

The site, www.jobseek.com.sg, received a surge in traffic during December and January. From languishing at #39 in late November (week ending November 25), the site almost doubled its traffic in the space of a few weeks and hit #21 in the Employment category for the week ending January 13.

Clickstream for JobSeek.com.sg illustrates the competitive nature of the online jobs market in Singapore: of the top five upstream sites sending traffic to www.jobseek.com.sg, three are competing websites: www.jobstreet.com.sg, www.jobstreet.com and www.jobsupermarket.com.
