An Old Favourite Still Popular Today - Barbie Dominates Online
Despite being almost 50 years old, Barbie still appears to be the toy of choice amongst Singaporean children. An analysis of Shopping & Classifieds - Toys & Hobbies search traffic reveals that 'barbie' was the number one toy searched-for by Singapore Internet users during the 24 weeks ending 12/07/2008. A further 3 search variations on 'barbie', such as 'barbie.com', 'barbie games' and 'www.barbie.com' appeared amongst the top 10 searches.

Over a two year period online interest in Barbie has remained relatively stable, with a 35.65% increase in searches for 'barbie' between the weeks ending 01/07/2006 and 28/06/2008. Other toys which have proved popular online with Singaporeans have included Lego, Transformers, Hello Kitty and My Little Pony. Although searches for 'lego', 'transformers' and 'hello kitty' have each overtaken searches for 'barbie' at some point during the last two years (weeks ending 01/07/2006 - 28/06/2008), Barbie's dominance of the online Toys & Hobbies industry remains unchallenged.

The majority of searches for 'barbie' (69.48% during the week ending 05/07/2008), have resulted in visits to the official Barbie website (www.barbie.com), which has consistently held the title of the number one Toys & Hobbies website since June 2005 (based on monthly data). It seems that the inclusion of Barbie games on the website has assisted in driving traffic to the website, with references to Barbie games appearing repeatedly amongst the website's top search terms. Search terms included, for example 'barbie games', 'barbie dress up games' and 'barbie doll games'. User engagement with Barbie.com has been high, with an average visit time to the website of 17 minutes and 32 seconds, which is 6 minutes and 7 seconds greater than the industry average; the online games most likely influencing this figure.
