Leveraging Competitive Intelligence
Find Your Competitors’ New and Returning Visitors
By using the Hitwise Clickstream New and Returning Visitors report, you can determine the proportion of new versus repeat visitors that search engines as well as your partners and affiliates are sending to you or your competitors. For example, if you are looking to increase your customer base and your competitor is Barnes & Noble, using "New and Returning Visitors," you will discover that 1.91% of visitors to www.barnesandnoble.com came from the MySpace website for the week ending 06/14/08. Of those, 54.89% were 'New' visitors. This may sound like a small percentage, but given the volume of visitors to Barnes & Noble and MySpace, it is probably a large number of online consumers. Using this information, you can determine that MySpace could be a great website to partner with in order to redirect some of that traffic to your website instead of Barnes & Noble. This insight is invaluable for gaining a competitive edge over your direct competitors.

Hitwise Intelligence Blogs
Travel Category Paid & Organic Search Benchmarks
June 17, 2008 - Heather Hopkins

In this second of two posts on the Travel report we issued last week, I wanted to share some findings from analysis we did on paid and organic traffic. In our analysis we noticed a huge difference in the ratio of paid and organic search traffic going to the various Travel sub-categories and to websites within those sub-categories.

Travel Agencies on average receive more of their search traffic from paid listings than do Transport or hotel websites. The top 10 Travel Agencies websites received an average of 48% of their search traffic from paid listings compared to 21% for the top 10 Transport websites and 31% for the top 10 hotel websites.
