Top 10 tennis personalities, based on Search Terms data for four weeks ending 18th June 2005.

Maria Sharapova, winner of last year’s Ladies’ Singles at Wimbledon and the number two seed this year, tops the list of the most searched-for tennis personalities this week, claiming more than 2% of all tennis-related searches online. However, the glamorous Sharapova is followed closely in the online popularity stakes by the Russian pin-up Anna Kournikova, the second most searched-for female tennis personality online despite recently retiring from tennis.

Reigning world champion and two-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is also conspicuously absent from the online tennis top ten; despite being the number one seed for Wimbledon 2005, the term ‘roger federer’ languishes at #27 amongst all tennis personalities. However, Wimbledon’s number two seed, American Andy Roddick, and the UK’s own Tim Henman are proving more popular with British tennis fans. The players are ranked at #2 and #3 respectively, with newcomer Rafael Nadal scooping the #4 spot after his recent win at the French Open.

Meanwhile, the Wimbledon tournament itself is capturing the attention of more than a few sports fans online this week: the official Wimbledon website (www.wimbledon.org) was the eighth most-popular Sports site yesterday, with visitors spending an average of 23 minutes on the site. ‘Wimbledon’ is also the sixth most searched-for term amongst all Sports searches.
