The market share of visits to the category increased 4 percent compared to the same week last year (week ending November 19, 2005).
In 2005, visits to the Food and Beverage – Lifestyle and Reference category increased 65.9 percent in the two weeks preceding Thanksgiving.
"Online recipe research continues to be a last minute activity,” said Bill Tancer, General Manager of Research at Hitwise. “This week’s increase in market share of visits to the category when compared to the same time last year indicates that turning to the Internet for holiday recipes is an increasingly popular tradition".
Pumpkin Pie and Dessert Recipes the Top Recipe Search Terms
The most popular recipe related search terms for the one-week period ending November 18, 2006 were 'pumpkin pie recipe', 'pecan pie recipe', 'pumpkin cheesecake recipe', 'pumpkin roll recipe' and 'sweet potato pie recipe'.
AllRecipes.com (www.allrecipes.com) was the top website receiving traffic from the term 'recipe' for the week ending November 18, 2006 with 36.9 percent of visits from the term. Food Network (www.foodnetwork.com) was second, accounting for 13.1 percent of visits from the term, followed by Kraft Foods (www.kraftfoods.com) with 8.2 percent of visits.
Retail Visits up 7 Percent Over Last Year, Searches for 'playstation 3' up 112 Percent Since Last Week Each week during the holiday shopping season, Hitwise provides weekly data showing the trend of the market share of visits to the Hitwise Retail 100 Index[2], along with the top 15 websites within the Index and the top successful brand and product-related search terms driving traffic to the Shopping and Classifieds category. This week, the Hitwise US Retail 100 Index chart shows that visits to the websites within the Index were up 7 percent for the week ending November 18, 2006 versus the same week last year (November 19, 2005).
The top product-related search term sending visits to the Shopping & Classifieds category for the week ending November 18, 2006 was 'playstation 3'. The share of searches for 'playstation 3' increased by 112 percent compared to the previous week. Overall, search terms related to the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii made up four out of top 10 product-related searches driving traffic to the Shopping and Classifieds category, indicating that the two gaming consoles will be this year's hot holiday gifts.
