Hot Products Heading into Black Friday

Black Friday is fast approaching on the 25th of November. With Amazon’s announcement of a 12-day long sale (starting on the 14th of November), Christmas shopping has most certainly begun in the UK. In our recent publication, Black Friday: Hour by Hour, we wrote that over 28 million online visits were made each hour from 9am to midnight, during last year’s Black Friday. An even bigger event and shopping season is also anticipated for this year.

So, what are the top searched for products for this week? Here are our key insights from our weekly Hot Products report:

Help! “Hatchimal in Stock” is rising in search

The Ferbie-Tamagochi hybrid toy has taken the market by storm, cementing its position as the “must-have” toy of the season. Retailers are even struggling to meet demand, with “hatchimal in stock” among the top search variation terms this week. The likes of Argos and Tesco have announced that more Hatchimals will be in stock soon, however our search statistics show that parents will need to be quick to snap up these toys before Christmas.

Consoles are on the move

Having jumped 20 places in the past week and a further 3 places this week, the PS4 Pro is making some splash in this year’s shopping season. Competition is heating up though this week, with “Nintendo Classic mini” and “Xbox One” entering the top 10. Compared to the facelift versions of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S, Nintendo has taken a different approach with their new product release. Paying homage to the classic 80’s console, the Nintendo Classic Edition will no doubt attract adults and children alike. Let’s see how the battle of the consoles unfold in the coming weeks.

The 80’s are making a comeback

In addition to the Nintendo Classic Edition, toys that were made popular 30 years ago are also jumping in search rankings. Sylvanian Families, which was named the Toy of the Year from 1987 to 1989, have risen 4 places each week to land 6th place this week. As well, Trolls toys, riding off the success of this year’s box office hit film, have also entered our top 10 toys list. Using our AudienceView data, we can also see that people searching for these toys span all age ranges and a large portion also don’t have children, suggesting an air of nostalgia and motivation to introduce toys from their youth to their nieces, nephews, grandchildren and so forth.
