The past month has been a trailblazer for online retail. We have had the largest Cyber Week in the UK to date, with a record 1.46 billion visits clocked over the week. Consumer spending has been strong, as total UK retail sales in November increased by 1.3% compared to the previous year.
The numbers show that people are willing to spend, but are increasingly looking for bargains online to do so. With Christmas only a few days away, which items sparked people’s interest and wallets the most? See below for this year’s final Hot Products list heading into Christmas.
Hot Products Overall
Claiming the top spot for the first 5 weeks of Hitwise’s Hot Products, Hatchimals have slightly trailed off in the past 3 weeks in search volumes. The new entrant for 2016 has bowed out to classic Christmas favourites, the Fitbit and LEGO, which have edged up to claim first and second place. We have also seen an impressive performance from Amazon’s Fire Stick and Echo, pointing to another great year for the e-tailer giant, who are well-positioned to lead the smart home market in 2017.
The past four weeks have cemented Hatchimals and Nintendo Classics as the top 2 toys for 2016’s Christmas season. The battle between retailers has heated up, with Amazon and Smyths Toys dominating clicks received from searches for “Nintendo classic mini” and Argos topping search clicks for “Hatchimals” in recent weeks. Other toys struggled to keep consistent top rankings, with newcomers Sega Mega, Gel a Peel, Kinetic Sand and Num Noms entering the top 10 in only the week before Christmas.
