With two weeks before Christmas and Hanukkah, we’re seeing a sort of “locking in” of the hot holiday products, and expect little movement in the next couple of weeks.
While there were three “new items” to the top ten this week, Destiny 2 and iPhone 8 had both previously made an appearance on the list at least once this holiday season and iPad has been hovering just outside of the top ten since early November.
One of the trending products below the top ten is the Elf on the Shelf, which sat at number 12 last week. This year, Santa’s little narc didn’t make it into the top ten, something Elf on the Shelf usually does the week after Thanksgiving. This could mean that fewer parents are buying new elves for their shelves, or most parents already have them.
A few other fast movers last week included: My Pillow, Pajamagram and Pandora Jewelry, all of which moved up 10 positions or more week over week.
While it looks like there are a lot of new items on the hot toy list, in reality two of them are just new search variations of MGA Entertainment’s LOL Surprise line of toys, which have been this season’s second hottest toy just after Fingerlings. In fact, these two toys are virtually neck-and-neck when it comes to search share, with each accounting for roughly 1 out of every 100 toy searches.
The SNES Classic jumped up into the top ten last week as shoppers discovered Nintendo had released more consoles, making it possible to buy again…even if chances are slim. Other trending items below the top ten included: Cozmo Robot, Magic Tracks and Oonies.
