Key dates and trends from 2016 to help you plan for Holiday 2017
Summer is fast approaching, and you know what that means? Holiday Planning. Being one of the biggest events of the year, retailers need to make sure they are prepared for the festive season.

Hourly trends: Hitwise retail 500
Using Hitwise data, we can look at hourly traffic trends. We did this for the top three days of the holiday season in 2016. Thanksgiving was one of the top days of the season, receiving 336 million visits, averaging about 14 million visits per hour. An analysis of the hourly visits reveals that the busiest time of the day for Thanksgiving were the late evening hours. Looking at Black Friday, we saw that the top retail sites were the busiest between 11am and noon. Viewing Cyber Monday, we observed a greater share of online shopping between 6am and 8am.

Retailers to watch
There are some retailers beyond the top 15 to watch. The retailers in the chart below posted gains in visits between December 2016 and May 2017. Hayneedle is at the top of the list with around +140 % change in visits YOY.

Spotlight: Smart home
The smart home category is growing and becoming increasingly popular. If we look at searches for smart home products, we can see an increase of +261% over the last 3 years. There was a significant spike in December 2016, growing +240% compared to December 2015.
